Raingod’s Weblog

Snark spoken here

1000 Posts, 1500 Quests, 5250 Dollars and 3 Weeks

In other words, the numbers that have popped up in my life over the past week.

1000 posts

I made my 1000th post over on SL this morning, and have learned this: nitwits aren’t limited to SL. On each and every forum I go to there are nitwits aplenty, always ready to share their ignorance on a global scale.  Fortunately the legion outside of SL tend to not take it outside the forums into blogs, or other websites. However, I have yet to see a forum run as badly as Matt runs SL, with his constant snipping, thread deletions and obvious way he play favorites and coddles the nitwits.  If Matt’s intent on doing this is to drive SL into the ground he is indeed doing a splendid job.

1500 quests

I recently got the achievement for completing 1500 quests in Warcraft, as well as doing 5 daily quests consecutively and 50 daily quests total. Hey being 80 has advantages; you can go back and cleanup all those low level quests you skipped or missed as you leveled up.

I also want to say it’s been a blast playing with Cussedness and chatting with her over ventrilo as we play. Stay away from the lava Cuss!

5250 dollars

Is the average amount of money it’s going to take to have all my lower teeth removed. Due to the expense and my mother not being able to pay that much, I’m looking into other dental plans to see if it can be done for something more manageable.

And no, a reach around isn’t included in that fucking the dentists are giving me.

3 Weeks

Is how long I’ve been unemployed. I’ve been on two interviews despite my creating a blizzard of resumes. Unemployment is behind and I still haven’t gotten my first check yet, but at least I did get the 401K check yesterday.

2 Podcasts

I’ve recorded segments for two podcasts for my warcraft guild. One is up and the other will be released later this week. If you’re interested, it’s available as an itunes download, simply search for alea iacta est. My segment is on episode 18.

1 new pet

Not being happy with how my corehound was working, I abandoned the drooling green mess in favor of a cat, a cursed child of Har’Koa and I’m very pleased with her so far. I named her Gilead, from the area where Roland inKing’s Dark Tower series hails from. Here’s a pic of this oh so sexy beast.

Things That Made Me Smile This Year

Everyone has their best of lists, favorites lists, etc, and frankly I haven’t played enough games or seen enough movies to make a 10 best list; instead this is a buffet (since no one says smorgrasbord anymore) of things that made me smile.

13th Star – Fish

This got a deluxe early release in September of last year, but didn’t have its US release until February of this year, so I’m putting it in. A remerkable album, filled with passion, soul and some cowbell on a couple of tracks. At a lean 55 minutes over 10 tracks, Fish creates some of his best music and insightful lyrics ever. Pretty damn impressive given his solo work and time with Marillion. In light of recent events he blogged about with his throat problems, it’s only all the more impressive.

The Dark Knight

One of the few movies I saw this year-at an IMAX theater no less, it lost none of its excitement or thrills for me as I watched it again on DVD. With such strong performances from Heath Ledger and Gary Oldman, Batman as played by Christian Bale, is overshadowed. The action is nonstop, the music is some of the best I’ve heard in a long time, and well, it had me on the edge of my seat for the whole movie.

SuperBad

Yes, I know this is a summer movie from ’07 but I only saw it this year. Its go for broke raunchiness is tempered by an ending that had me a bit choked up. Michael Cera, a favorite from Arrested Development, Cera has the comedic acting chops to be around for a long, long time.

Secret Millionaire

This one is a bit of a guilty pleasure. Fox’s new reality show, allows a millionaire to pose as someone poor in order to look for people to help. It’s about as shallow and contrived as one can get, but I swear, when they break the checks out at the end, the look on people’s faces is worth the 50 minutes of cringe inducing moments.

World of Warcraft/Wrath of the Lich King

Anyone who’s read my blog,  by now knows my love (indeed obsession, perhaps), for the game. It’s brought me hours of joy, diversion and excitement in ways I could have never imagined. Oh, I know it’s only a video game, but there’s something that happens once you log in…you lose yourself in it the way you do in a great novel or movie. And as much as I loved WoW when I first started playing in April, I have come to adore it even more with the expansion. Brilliant game.

Rusty, Cussedness, ETT

And most everyone else who details the exploits of the nitwits. If I listed everyone I’d have a list as long as Nikita’s problems, so don’t feel excluded.

Death in Common

I still have a smile from this one. The first published appearance of my work as a writer. What’s not to smile about?

Odetta

And finally no list of things which make me smile would be complete without my cat Odetta. She keeps me going, and is the only anchor I sometimes feel I’ve got to this life. For almost 5 years now, this furry little friend has been my constant companion, and life wouldn’t be the same without her.

So, now you know what made me smile this year,  what about you? What made you smile this year?

Dagstine IS human…according to him…

So Larry wished Cuss a Happy Birthday on SL today. http://shocklinesforum.yuku.com/topic/7566. A day late, and many brain cells short. Warning! Beware of hacks bearing tidings!

It Is My Fault…or is it?

http://cussedness.wordpress.com/2008/10/21/its-all-raingods-fault/

All I did was post pretty pictures! It wasn’t my fault Philbin and the NWO zapped me while I wasn’t wearing my tin foil hat!

(PS: Yeah, it took me half a day to post that mirth filled rejoinder. sad, isn’t it?)

Dagstine’s true colors

Seems Lorenzo is keeping busy this morning attempting to cause problems for Janrae over on her blog. http://cussedness.wordpress.com/2008/08/29/suing-critics/#comment-715.

Like everything else, Dagstine prefers style over substance. It’s too bad he has no style to cover the fact he has nothing of substance to say. It’s the same old thing, “I’m gonna get my e-lawyers on you!”. He tries to take a page from autoaim.cfg and post her address, yet only manages to get the snail mail address for her publishing company. Yet another example of how lacking Daggy is in even basic writerly abilities such as research. He bullies and harrasses Janrae (and 43 other people apparently) with his emperor has no clothes talk, revealing him what he truly is: just another jealous, untalented hack with aspirations that will never be met by his astonishing lack of talent.

Lorenzo, do you think any worthwhile publisher will EVER consider your work with your constant talk of lawsuits? You could write War and Peace and it would remain unpublished simply because of your unprofessional behavior. You use the oldest, least successful form of intimidation; the bluff. You pretend to know something you have no clue about. You talk about people who you don’t know and never talk to, despite your claims. For all your rhetoric, you have nothing new to say, and waste valuable time (time that could be spent, say, learning how to write) saying it, anyway.

Over here, http://range.wordpress.com/2006/08/04/blog-and-internet-psychosis/, Larry writes,

I don’t even list my bigger credits anymore. I save them for my personal enjoyment.

Well, that explains SO much, Lorenzo. I know if I had major credits, I’d keep them quiet, and just post all the meaningless credits you post about. That’s a great way to publisize your work. However, as we all know any major credits you may claim are lies. Where’s the Asimov credit, Lorenzo? Have you driven out to see and stalk Rusty, lately? When you live in a glass house, you need to leave the rocks in your head where they are.
